Houselessness

Why houselessness?

Jesus teaches his followers and friends to serve, remember, and care for the poor. There are beloved citizens in our city who do not have permanent or stable housing, and we want to join in the citywide efforts to alleviate that suffering. Though many members of our body serve the houseless in direct and individual ways, we partner with two local organizations to multiply our collective efforts.

Partnership Spotlight: My Father’s House

The mission of My Father’s House is to equip houseless families with the life skills necessary to become contributing members of their community. Located in East Portland, My Father’s House provides transitional housing for families while also providing job training, financial coaching, parenting support, and more. My Father’s House is a leading model for successfully transforming the lives of houseless families, to live and thrive in permanent, stable housing.

First Covenant is a proud partner of My Father’s House, sponsoring one of the rooms for families. We provide all of the home goods and furniture for these families, to help give them a new start.

Partnership Spotlight: The Father’s Heart

The Father’s Heart is a local ministry in Clackamas County, sharing the love of Christ to transform the lives of hurting, lonely, addicted and hopeless people. Through a network of partnerships and volunteers, the Father’s Heart is a safe refuge where those who are enduring houselessness can rest, shower, sleep, eat a warm meal, and find rest.

Our church regularly collects goods (clothing, toiletries, and other supplies) and some of our small groups host meal-making events to help provide food for the shelter.
